Raisin Hope Cycling Classic
 |
| Saul Raisin, Brian Brown (injured 2006) and Alice Brown |
Saturday August 21, 2010, all Day
15055 South Golden Road, Golden, CO 80401
All are welcome to participate: Novice to Pro -- Women, Men, Juniors, and Handcyclists are welcome to participate.
Raisin Hope Foundation was created to help transform hope into knowledge. As a professional cyclist, Saul Raisin was known for Raisin Hell, and now as a brain injury survivor he asks you to join him on his quest for Raisin Hope for individuals and families affected by brain injuries.
After surviving a traumatic brain injury, Brian, who was injured in 2006, and his wife Alice, wanted to aid and encourage other survivors and families of traumatic brain injuries. They searched for an organization that would allow them to continue their passion for bicycling while benefiting Craig Hospital where Brian was treated. They met Saul Raisin at the Moab Skinny Tire Festival and decided to join forces with his organization, Raisin Hope Foundation.
Craig Hospital patients have benefited from the Raisin Hope event through the purchase of portable blood pressure cuffs for patients in the clinic and at discharge. Also, the Raisin Hope Therapy Scholarship Fund provides therapy to patients who no longer can afford their sessions for various reasons.

Proceeds from the event support Craig Hospital's Harry R. Hahn, M.D. Alumni Scholarship Fund. These scholarships assist Craig alumni to pursue undergraduate or graduate education to prepare them for careers interrupted by life-changing injuries. Since 1990, the event has donated over $890,000 to the Hahn Scholarship Fund, resulting in more than 900 scholarship awards.
A smaller percentage of the proceeds provides scholarships for deserving members of Kappa Kappa Gamma through The Iris Foundation, a Colorado 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation and the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation. In total, the event has raised over $1 million dollars in scholarship funds since its inception.
First presented in 1990, the Kappa Book & Author Dinner has continued to grow yearly and is nationally recognized as one of the premier author events in the country.
Two of our three authors have been selected: Martin Cruz Smith (Gorky Park) and Donald Ryan.
